Homer

My friend Moorea and I took a roadtrip to Homer which is a super cute town about 4 hours drive from Seward. We went 'work-related' to go shadow the Fish and Game Department to see how they process and analysis all the biological data we got from our jobs this summer. It was pretty sweet, we got put up in this bunkhouse which was really nice and clean, and had the best view over the Homer Spit from its deck.

From my pictures I took it seems there was more of a drinking theme to the trip, I'm OK with that.

We headed to the Bear Creek Winery, which mixes wine with fun Alaskan goodies like Berries and gooseberries..and rhubard. Its not really for the typical wine connoisseur but its super deliciouso and different.

We sampled their christmas wine special which was mixed with lots of festive flavours- it seriously tasted like xmas in a glass.

We got a little tour being the only tourists there. They were at the beginning of making their rhubard wine at the time.

Moving on to the next drink, we headed to the Downtown Saloon, a very local bar to watch football. (Well, not me obviously, but I did enjoy some nice Sierra Nevada's and free popcorn)

Next stop was dinner at Fat Olives-my fav restaurant in Homer! Seward lacks anywhere decent to eat in the winter so we were all about eating too. We absolutely stuffed ourselves, I couldn't sleep that night from indigestion.

To top off our bellies we went to the pub and finished the night off with a baileys and coffee, and  a quiz where we learned that 'Harry Banknote' means Beaver pelt. I now use it daily in my vocab.

House Update

Ok Lizzie just for you here's the most recent pic of my mans hard work. We now have a complete second floor with its own bedroom and bathroom, and aren't these french doors just fabulous!

I was really opposed to putting in a wall upstairs, I loved how open it was but I'm pretty happy how its all turned out. It actually looks and feels bigger somehow.

Sorry about the weird angle, I was slightly worried about tumbling to my death off the stairway. Which leads me to our next project...a railing!

As you can see here our house guest is becoming more like family....

Snow's here

We have an extra house guest for the next couple of weeks, I'm taking care of my friends Dog, Serin, while they are on vacation. Serin is a great hiker and she was very helpful training with me for the Mountain this year.

We got our first real snowfall so we headed up to the bowl of Mt Marathon as its a more mellow of a hike.

It was a beautiful day but absolutely freezing, when the North wind hit us it was pretty brutal.

So we headed back down to our lil town of seward.

Halloween on the 2:15 to Tokyo

Halloween is a glorious event for Craig and I, we like to go all out! This year we had a pre-bar bash at our house with our close friends. I was very festive and made a Jack-o-lantern pizza, a spider shaped dinner roll plate and a goolish witches brew punch.

I hope you can guess our costumes, but my friend Sara here was pretty awesome with her naughty-girl scout accomplishments...her S&M badge was my fav.

I made Craig an ice cream cake for his birthday as he missed out on the slope...it had a chocolate graham crust, layers of pumpkin ice cream with chocolate pieces mashed in, yellow cake and a marshmallow frosting. Obviously totally calorie free ;)

 I was very proud of my concoction but it was still slightly frozen in the middle which made for an interesting cutting process.

We don't have any post party photos, but it was of course completely debaucherous with far too many shots involved and then the extra hour at the bars as the clocks went back!

 Lets just say Craig found me asleep on the bathroom rug at 6am with a towel as my blanket. 'Nough said.
