Hey Sloper, are you on the Slope?

Some how the Fishing season ended and I transitioned into a full time job on the north slope. It is the full on 7 twelve hour shifts a week for two weeks straight. Lodging is available at a full service man camp. We all go to work in this giant drill rig called “7ES”

This is the drill bit, which I went to the slope like a chomper because my Dad told me they were kept secret, by a team of gun toting black suits. Turned out they use them then give them away to anyone who wants it.

We basically are just a team of 9 dudes drilling a giant string of pipe into the ground a couple miles down, then around and around, until oil is found.

There are all kinds of very sophisticated equipment with very indepth technical explanations, but seriously to a regular person this is what the stuff is for::



So this is the Drill Rig on the move, yeah it drives with wheels and goes 1.5 MPH it's pretty sweet.








You know in the movies when they find oil and it comes shooting out of the well and the people celebrate and junp for joy. This "BOP" blow out preventer keeps that from happening.










This is what you call the Hybrid room. It changes diesel into Electricity and electrictiy makes the rig go round.














These are the giant wheels that make the rig move around town. It also is a favorite hiding spot for one member of the drill team called robin.

Robin, shown here is the other roustabout he reads about 2 novels a week, yeah he pulls his weight.

These things shake the rocks out of the drilling fluid "Mud" for smooth drilling, they also offer a great back massage for those that lean on them.

This contraption takes all the silt and the sand out of the "mud" when its a little too thick.

This freak controls all this vibrating and disilting stuff. He say's call me "sid" his real name is "Milt" he is serously weird... Others told me he went for almost 8 months without leaving the slope, that may have something to do with it.

This is the rig floor, this is where it literally "goes down". The pipe goes into the hole.... rule number one on the rig floor..."protect the hole" if you drop something down the hole, it could cost $2 mil to fish it out..

Looking up on the rig floor you can see the inside of the derrick "giant tower on the rig" the giant yellow thing is called the "top drive" it puts pipe in, twists it, pumps inside, pumps out, lifts up and down, grabs pipe, moves stuff.. it's pretty important.

This is the costume you have to wear everyday if you are a sloper.. Fireproof coveralls, steel toed boots, saftey glasses, earplugs, hard hat. Yeah it's a complete safe suit.. how could you get hurt in this..
