Bird Update

At Bird TLC this week we got in 3 Bohemian Waxwings. These are beautiful birds that often fall victim to window hits (Please bird proof your windows!) They have a gorgeous tail that looks like its been dipped in yellow paint, sorry I didn't fit his tail in the picture :(
Cool Fact: The name "Bohemian" refers to the nomadic movements of winter flocks. It comes from the inhabitants of Bohemia, meaning those that live an unconventional lifestyle or like that of gypsies.
We flight tested this guy hoping he was ready for release but he failed miserably. More rehab for him.

This cutie above is a Boreal Owl-these guys are tiny standing only 8 inches tall! He had a broken wing and leg but has been healing up nicely. Boreal owls like to nest in tree cavities and really like to stick with the cold latitudes in Alaska, Canada and Northern Eurasia.

He's right at home at Bird TLC in Anchorage.

Amy,
Those birds are beautiful. You took great photos. The grosbeak looks as though someone painted eyemakeup on--so beautiful.
Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Paula

Amy,
Sorry I called the waxwing a grosbeak! Obviously, I don't know birds very well!
