Bird Update

At Bird TLC this week we got in 3 Bohemian Waxwings. These are beautiful birds that often fall victim to window hits (Please bird proof your windows!) They have a gorgeous tail that looks like its been dipped in yellow paint, sorry I didn't fit his tail in the picture :(
Cool Fact: The name "Bohemian" refers to the nomadic movements of winter flocks. It comes from the inhabitants of Bohemia, meaning those that live an unconventional lifestyle or like that of gypsies.
We flight tested this guy hoping he was ready for release but he failed miserably. More rehab for him.

This cutie above is a Boreal Owl-these guys are tiny standing only 8 inches tall! He had a broken wing and leg but has been healing up nicely. Boreal owls like to nest in tree cavities and really like to stick with the cold latitudes in Alaska, Canada and Northern Eurasia.

He's right at home at Bird TLC in Anchorage.

Manhattan Madness

Nicki (a friend who used to live in Alaska) drove all the way from Virginia to spend time with me in New York!

I found a bargain last minute deal on cheaphotels.com at this super nice hotel, just a few blocks up from Times Square.

View from our hotel room on the 12th floor..

A chilly day but it didn't keep us from exploring Central park...

Nicki and I outside the beautiful MET, Metropolitan Museum of Art:

What a crazy city, the lights of broadway and times square are quite something else.

A Friend for Sake

On Saturday my good friend Sarah asked me go with her to look for a new kitten or young cat!

Sarah has a 3 year old siamese cat called Sake (in pic above with me) who is the coolest cat on the planet. I lived with Sarah and sake for a year with 2 other cats so he is used to be being around lots of company. I would take care of him during the summers while Sarah worked in Russia so he like my adoptive cat.

Now Sarah lives on her own Sake is getting bored so she thinks it will good for him to have a playmate!
We drove to the Kenai Animal Shelter and there were so many dogs and cats needing a home it just breaks my heart. Though it seemed like some bug was going round the cats there so we didn't want to risk that.

We drove to Homer and Sarah found the 'one' instantly. He looks abit like Sake with his stripping and he was very affectionate!

'Sumo' doesn't know how lucky he is!

New Years Part Deux

So we headed to the Yukon Bar in Seward about 11pm..the Yukon is a very Alaskan bar where all the tourists put a dollar bill up on the celling. Its been around for ages so there is about 100 years worth of dirt and smoke for your breathing pleasure.
Here's the girls- from left to right Tamera, Sarah D, Me, and Sarah N.

Tamera and Blaine make a very cute couple...

Blaine and Craig had this gig going all night where they laugh hysterically to get a good camera pic..

as normally this is a typical Mr C pose:

Here's where things started to get a little cloudy for me...too many vodka shots I didn't even know I was drinking.

Slightly more fuzzy...

Busting out the sexy dance moves...

Leading to inappropriate PDA....

but not strictly limited to Craig and I...

I'm not quite sure what was going on here:

And finally Craig demonstating what I would most likely be doing in a couple of hours.

It was a great night, regardless of the fact I don't remember large sections of it after midnight :()
Craig and I had a very mellow New Years Day..while I took an afternoon nap here's how spoilt Saebo gets (and they say dogs often resemble their owners....)

Happy New Year Part Uno

We went into 2009 with some serious debauchery. The night started out with dinner at our friends house, Tamera and Blaine.
Blaine cooked up 6 lbs worth of King and Snow crab! Probably worth about 300 buckeroos in a restaurant. Lucky for us Blaine and Tamera work for J dock Seafood Company.

The king crab legs were as big as my dang wrist.

Check out our massive pile of eaten ones...

We played Cranium after to digest our massive feast. It was hilarious. We hit the bars about 11pm and that part of the night deserves its own blog!
