Chena Hot Rover

We had quite an adventure this past weekend..Craig spent the last 2 weeks checking out a Range Rover on Craigslist which was up near Fairbanks (470 miles North of Seward). After some serious communication took place with the seller Craig flew up to Fairbanks on Friday and made the deal.

I flew up later that night and we drove around the city of fairbanks in our sweet new ride.

The next day we got out our birding anoraks and stumbled upon Creamers Field, a birding mecca.

We then headed 60 miles east down Chena hot Springs Road and had a pre-honeymoon night at the resort there. It was pretty romantico.

I forced Craig to hike up the mini hill to get a view of the resort..he wasn't too happy about it for some reason.

so I made it more entertaining....

We enjoyed a nice dinner and had some yummmsies dessert...

On Sunday before starting the journey home we took a detour to the strange town of 'North Pole' that has completely capitalised from its name, the whole town has candy cane street lights and roads called St Nicholas, Mistletoe etc...

We found Santa's house...

A very large santa...

And a very handsome santa...

We then hit the long road to Anchorage which took about 6 hours..we drove over the Nenana River which is famous for its Nenana Ice Classic-basically there is this tripod thingy placed in the river in the winter, people then buy a ticket guessing when the ice will break and whoever is nearest to the minute wins the jackpot-over 280K this year!
I'd never heard of this until Craig educated me while going over the bridge of the river.

It was a nice drive home, Craig would frequently see how fast the RR could go on the straight roads while I gripped the seat for my life..its about 110mph apparently.

And when Craig and Amy got to Anchorage, they spent a lovely eveing with the Toxic Inlaws, Ron and Ina. We had some wine and snackies, then they tucked themselves into their room with a BRAND NEW feather top mattress!!! From the Mattress Ranch!! We always enjoy a visit from Amy and Craig. xoxo PS Loved this post!! xoxo
